About Me

My name is Shane Goss, I live in Gisborne, Victoria, Australia.

I'm a Web Designer and Developer, but in my spare time, I like to write music and make Interesting looking images.

My original site was formed 2 years ago, and was hosted with flatface.net; an excellent free webhost that, in it's later years, unfortunately experienced an excessive amount of downtime due to modem problems. Eventually, the server just vanished, along with my old site.. Fortuantely for me though, I found a new host (110mb.com) which was actually better than flatface. This also gave me a chance to make up a brand new site. It's not much at the moment, but I hope to fix that in the near future.

After around 6 months of my first site having low traffic and not being terribly nice to look at, I decided to give it an overhaul. A new layout was devised, a broader spectrum of content (well, just my friends' work too), and more website promotion. Still, because of the downtime I experienced at flatface, I rarely got enough traffic to keep my dust11-inc.tk address.

So when my site died, I kind of gave up on maintaining a website, because I had spent months looking for more hosting to replace flatface, but with no avail. I spent a considerable amount of time just watching from the sidelines. That is, until I found my new host. I was originally just looking for some reliable space where I could store my music for my PC site, but that all changed when I discovered all the features I'd be wasting by not actually setting up a site. I am not with 110mb hosting anymore, I am now using my paid company hosting for my site, as I have the available bandwidth, space and server features (including unlimited databases, domains, email addresses) and I can support this site from my work.

This is the current. What you see before you has been created out of a need for a place to vent that isn't myspace, msn spaces, etc..

The name "dust11" (spelt exactly that way in all cases, and must not be capitalised) is derived from the fact that the internet is so vast and widespread. On the internet, you will most likely have an identity. It's a completely different world where people can become famous just from their very ideas (or when things become viral on 4chan ). The unfortunate thing is that the internet might be too widespread. You could go through the entire dictionary in every language, and find that every noun, and even some verbs have been taken as "identities". The only way to resolve this is by adding a number or some symbol to the end of the desired name.

If you want to make a name for yourself, you don't need an agent, you don't need a lot of money, you don't even need a lot of skill. All you need is the ability to interact with others. The internet can never be commercial like the world is today, as anyone can create something, or destroy it if they feel.

And that is why the internet is such a beautiful thing.
