At least during some point of your life, things become wonderful. For me that is right now. I finally scored a job working in IT, at an awesome company. I won't say where, but lets just say I do consulting and web admin. Great atmosphere too. Not only that, but I'll be attending an official launch party for the new Fermi cards.
Things are going great with grey; we are currently living together in the south eastern suburbs. She's trying to get me back into playing WoW. I played it for around 2 weeks many years ago and never developed an interest. But playing with somebody else might prove to be more fun than by myself.
I was going to write something else but I forgot. I'll blog later.

My dog died.. It's one of those things that takes you forever to realise, and when it finally clicks in your mind your whole psyche distorts. And you see things from a new perspective.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank that lovely Chinese person for downloading Attraction 163 times. You've really made my night. Knowing I've been able to share my music on such a personal level with somebody from the other side of the world, is something I've been waiting to achieve ever since I started writing music. Thank-you for giving me just that.
In other news, I'm doing just great at the moment. My PC is dead though, so I haven't been able to write any new material lately.. But that's ok, it'll be fixed very soon.
Got some xkcd merchandise, including some posters and a new t-shirt. Also got a hand signed copy of one of Randall's comics, it's sitting in a frame on my shelf
New phone (Nokia E71), new HTPC, new iPod (I know, I know. I needed it for work). New fan for my EeePC, so it's nice and quiet again.
New furniture is coming soon, and possibly a new TV. After I get my car serviced.
I've also given up on relationships; they're more trouble than they're worth. It's a good thing, I'm enjoying being single again. New job is also pretty good. I've been given a few big projects. I have to create a logistics map for the entire water system for Victoria, including distances, energy required to pump water, topologies, etc.. I'm essentially doing what my Dad does. Playing with maps all day. I wonder if anyone ever thought I'd grow up to be just like him . I also have to create a Water Quality Improvement Program, which will involve me going through a shitload of reports.. Boring, but it's a job, and it pays OK. It pays better than my last job. I've also done some work on the Western Water intranet, updated some pages, moved stuff around, etc.. I still have to write up some more pages with William, about Trade Waste and Biosolids (the nasty stuff), but I'll do that once I sort through all this DataWorks stuff. That's gonna take me a while. Comment retracted, pointless troll is pointless.

What people don't understand about music
|

This blog is expanded on part of a conversation Emma and I were having. It won't make much sense to most people, is very much unfinished, and is geared towards mainstream pop music. If you disagree with anything written here, any comments you make will be duly noted, and laughed at. Music isn't about the voice. It's not about the singer. It's not even about the message portrayed through the song in lyrical form. It's about the harmonies, the structures that are formed, and the shared communal memories one can evoke through the sound, often WITHOUT language. That's what music is about. Music is art, to add language can tarnish it or make it less personal. inb4 "freedom of expression, art can be anything", because art doesn't work that way, and you're a dumb shit for thinking it. Art is about creating an atmosphere through expressive means, not just throwing your uncultured opinion to the masses. That's how we end up with "artists" like Justin Timberlake, or Katy Perry. These are people who exploit the beauty of music to make money. Have you ever heard such a haunting melody which sent a shiver through all of your senses? A perfect example would be this:
Listen to how the vocals are layered into the song, without distracting from the essence of the music. This is real music. If you cannot understand this, then I really feel sorry for you. We aren't told how to think, you don't listen to a song and expect to be "taught" the meaning behind it. It's about coming to your own conclusion of what the song is about, and appreciating the musical value. This is why so many songs are empty. This is why so many genres don't work. Country music? It doesn't work. Country music is all about the lyrics, and most of the time, a singer will try to sing over the top of the music. It's horrible. Heavy Metal? I HATE Heavy Metal. But regardless, the vocals match the style of playing. I can appreciate that with good artists, the vocals don't distract from the music. Although, a lot of bands do write their music that way. Music has been homogenised, watered down and mutated so much over the last hundred years, and it's so sad.. I'm getting sick of writing this, so I'm ending it here. Blah.
